CCA Pre-College Summer Program 2014
Post date: Dec 12, 2013 1:28:24 AM
For more than 25 years, CCA’s Pre-College Program has been an inspiring opportunity for high school students to study art, architecture, design, or creative writing in an art school setting while earning 3 units of college credit. Pre-College provides a perfect platform for students to expand their knowledge, grow as individuals, develop strong portfolio pieces and get a taste of college life.
Students are immersed in a college-level curriculum and become part of a creative community, meeting and working with other talented, serious students from diverse backgrounds. International students are welcome to attend CCA’s Pre-College Program. Eligible students will have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by Summer 2014.
APPLICATION
We encourage all applicants to apply online. Please note the online application will not be available until January 6.
A complete application contains the following requirements:
• Application ($45 non-refundable application fee)
• Tuition deposit ($125 refundable through May 16)
• Official high school transcripts (translated)
• Housing deposit ($100 refundable through May) - Only for students interested in on-campus housing
• Letter of English proficiency (if applicable)
In order for international students to make travel arrangements, they will be notified of admission and housing decisions two weeks after all required application materials are received.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
International students must have fluent English proficiency; the program is conducted in English only. International participants are typically attending English-speaking high schools in the United States or abroad.
Students who have completed the TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS are strongly encouraged to submit their scores with their application.
HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH + ART/DESIGN PROGRAM
For high school students who would benefit from preparatory language experience, CCA offers a three-week summer program (non-credit). This program provides the opportunity to develop all English language skill areas meaningfully through exploration of the art/design disciplines and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Participants create and document work for their portfolios and develop personal essays for college applications. Eligible students will have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by July 2014.
THE BAY AREA
While taking courses on CCA’s beautiful and historic Oakland campus, students can explore the San Francisco Bay Area’s rich culture and geography.
The Bay Area’s combination of thriving urban centers and wild open spaces has long been a draw for creative individuals. Pre-College students will find inspiration in this unique environment.
COURSES & FACULTY
Pre-College courses are designed to challenge students at all levels of artistic experience. Participants may choose to try something new or explore in greater depth a discipline in which they are already interested.
Choose from 18 offered courses in fine art, design, writing, and architecture. Various special activities supplement and enrich the coursework.
The Pre-College faculty members are dedicated and highly accomplished artists, architects, designers, and writers who are interested in sharing their professional insights and experiences. The majority of them also teach in CCA’s undergraduate degree programs.
HOUSING
CCA offers optional on-campus housing staffed and supervised by a director, assistant director, resident advisers, and two graduate interns.
The director and assistant director are professional live-in staff members who oversee all aspects of residential life.
