The college and careers counselor, Berta Liao, is at HIS on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Her office hours are by appointment.

Meet the Counselor
Berta has been the College Counselor at HIS since 2010. She has a Certificate in College Counseling earned with Distinction from UCLA and Bachelors and Masters degrees in Political Science from MIT.
Berta regularly presents at professional conferences, including the International Association for College Admissions Counseling (International ACAC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS) East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) conferences. She served as a faculty member at the International ACAC Pre-Conference Institute, and at the Global University Counselor Connect (GUCC) conferences in Singapore. As a co-founder of the Counselors Association of Taiwan, Berta has helped raise the profile of HIS and Taiwan amongst university representatives worldwide. Additionally, she visits over 20 institutions of higher education around the world each year, and speaks Mandarin.
Before moving into the field of education, her career spanned a broad range of industries and companies: from large corporations such as UMC and Lehman Brothers, to a NGO and a startup Internet company. Her focus in all of these organizations was always marketing and communications. She uses her marketing experience and expertise to help students identify and effectively communicate their talents. Berta believes in helping students to find institutions where they can flourish, realize their goals, and grow as individuals. Born and raised in the U.S., she is a Taiwanese-American who has lived in Taiwan since 2001.
